The challenges of research-creation at the intersection of dance and technological design

This essay attempts to define the contours of artistic research by relying on the writings of Manning, Massumi and Borgdorff. I propose a set of methodological, epistemological, and poetic considerations situating artistic research at the intersection of arts and sciences, contributing to new forms of knowledge and critical reflection. I also address the tensions resulting from this hybridization, which produces artistic artifacts blurring the boundaries between art and science and transgressing their existing paradigms of production. Finally, I illustrate the different forms that artistic research can take through my own choreographic creations and my underlying research in human-machine interaction.

Cet essai tente de définir les contours de la recherche-création en s’appuyant notamment sur les écrits de Manning, Massumi et Borgdorff. Je propose un ensemble de considérations méthodologiques, épistémologiques et poétiques situant la recherche-création à l’intersection des arts et des sciences, avec pour objectif de faire émerger de nouvelles formes de connaissances et de réflexions critiques. J’aborde également les tensions résultant de cette hybridation, qui produit des actes artistiques brouillant les frontières entre l’art et la science et transgressant leurs paradigmes existants de production. Enfin, j’illustre les différentes formes que la recherche-création peut prendre à travers mes propres créations chorégraphiques et ma démarche de recherche en interaction humain-machine, qui leur donne vie et les accompagne.
