Research-Creation at Grame, a National Center for Musical Creation

The core of the Grame project, a national center for musical creation, founded in 1982 by James Giroudon and Pierre-Alain Jaffrennou, is the exploration and development of knowledge and technologies in the service of artistic creation, particularly in the fields of music, performing arts and multimedia expressions. This communication shows how this objective of art/science synergy will be translated over four decades by relying on a research team installed at the center of a system facilitating interactions between the problems and questions of composers and the methodologies, concepts and tools driven by research. In this spirit, particular emphasisis shed on a series of innovative tools accessible to artists and on the mediation of scientific and technological knowledge towards the public, particularly schools, by trans-mitting it through creative actions.

Le coeur du projet Grame, centre national de création musicale, fondé en 1982 par James Giroudon et Pierre-Alain Jaffrennou, est l’exploration et le développement de savoirs et de technologies au service de la création artistique, particulièrement dans les champs de la musique, des arts de la scène et des expressions multimédia. La présente com-munication montre comment cet objectif de synergie art/science se traduira durant quatre décennies en s’appuyant sur une équipe de recherche installée au centre d’un dispositif facilitant les interactions entre les problématiques et questionne-ments des compositeurs et les méthodologies, concepts et outils portés par la recherche. Dans cet esprit, un éclairage particulier est apporté sur une série d’outils innovants accessibles aux artistes et sur la médiation des connaissances scientifiques et technologiques en direction des publics, particulièrement des scolaires, en opérant la transmission au tra-vers d’actions créatrices.
