@ARTICLE{TBA, TITLE={[FORTHCOMING] The art of comics: contributions and limitations of artificial intelligence (AI)}, AUTHOR={Hollman Rojas, }, JOURNAL={Technology and Innovation}, VOLUME={}, NUMBER={Forthcoming papers}, YEAR={2026}, URL={https://www.openscience.fr/The-art-of-comics-contributions-and-limitations-of-artificial-intelligence-AI}, DOI={TBA}, ISSN={2399-8571}, ABSTRACT={This article examines how generative artificial intelligence is transforming the comic creation process, from ideation to distribution. After a brief historical overview and a discussion of the artistic, narrative, and economic specificities of comics, it considers the main stages of production and the potential uses of AI in scriptwriting, visual development, post-production, and editorial communication. The study highlights the potential benefits in terms of exploration, speed, and creative assistance, while also emphasizing the technical, artistic, ethical, and legal limitations, particularly those related to training data and copyright. The analysis is complemented by a case study of the comic Cassandra on Fire, which shows that the controlled integration of AI relies on human artistic direction, clear narrative intention, and continuous supervision of the creative process. Finally, it proposes a gradation of AI use, ranging from occasional assistance to more intensive intervention involving the gradual delegation of certain creative operations.}}
