L’organisation de l’innovation technologique des entreprises : une analyse autour du concept d’exploration

Cette contribution propose, à l’aide d’une représentation simple de l’organisation de l’activité d’innovation des entreprises, de mesurer le poids des innovations d’exploration et d’exploitation. L’objectif est d’étudier les déterminants structuraux associés à l’une ou l’autre des activités afin de mieux comprendre les choix des entreprises. A cette fin l’article s’appuie sur des outils issus de la théorie de la cohérence technologique appliqués aux portefeuilles de brevets des 2 000 plus grands groupes innovants au monde.

This contribution proposes, with the help of a simple representation of the organization of companies’ innovation activity, to measure the weight of exploration and exploitation innovations. The objective is to study the structural determinants associated with one or the other of the activities in order to better understand the choices of companies. To this end, the article uses tools from the theory of technological coherence applied to the patent portfolios of the world’s 2,000 largest innovative groups.
