To this end, we examine the way in which three paradigms - education through (video)games, education in (video)games and gamification - affect the objects and experiences of play, while at the same time influencing the relationships that the target audiences have with the knowledge worked on in class, in the devices that implement them. Four ideas are thus put into perspective: the relationship between (video)games and knowledge, the intrinsic power of (video)games to make students learn, the appeal of (video)games and student engagement, the authenticity and accessibility of (video)games.
